some info about the project [ as at 20 june 2009]

1.  We’ve asked 6 artists to work with 6 galleries to create 6 artworks around east gippsland.

2.  The 6 artworks will form an arts trail that can be travelled over melbourne cup weekend.

3.  All 6 artworks  needs to interpret the idea of ‘seldom seen’.

4 . Each team will need to  work out together what their project is – what they want to make,  how they want to pace themselves, how they will spend their budget.

5. Generally, the artspace should expect to gather the people and materials that are needed to create the work.

6. The mentor’s role is also to push the edginess of the project – to make us all think of the layers that make art more interesting .

7. Please remember that we’ve used mentors to help identify the really unique strengths of each artspace -  to help the gallery  ‘pull a crowd’ in a way that they may never have considered.

8 .  And, we want to want to attract a lot of people to the energy of the project. So, even if only  a few people are working ‘hands on’ with the mentor, we want others involved in other ways … local photographers to   document the work, or cooks to  help feed the team, or bloggers to update the project website, or other groups to think of ways that can ‘feed’ off our event on Melbourne Cup Weekend. you know what I mean?

9. There will be a series of workshops & gatherings over the next 4 months that all projects should attend (at least one person from each project). Presenters will talk about different ways to make the project work – planning , branding, marketing, partnering.

12. Each project should document their progress as much as possible.

13. The final art trail needs to be worth travelling. We need to keep talking throughout the next 4 months about how each spot on the trail  can have its own ‘highlight’ time – perhaps a time when there is music or food, or something else on offer?

14. We need to identify all the nearby ‘attractions’ that will interest our audience. (galleries, nice places to picnic, walks, etc)
